This homeschool journey is dedicated to my mother Cecilia and my father, Deacon Melchor Magat (1952-2018), who lived a life filled with gratitude, and whose love continues to echo in our lives, propelling us forward in our search for holiness. (A great deal of the content on this website is inspired by his life.)
Our Story
Having lived in the Bay Area for most of our married life together, Sergio and I understand how hard it is to raise a family on one or two or even three incomes. In pursuit of the "American dream," my husband worked overtime while I helped run a financial firm, leaving no time for family.
One ordinary day, our oldest daughter expressed a sudden interest in homeschooling. Obviously, I was opposed to the idea since I didn't know anyone who homeschooled. However, she did not take no for an answer. She remained persistent until I found myself at a 2015 Seton Home Study School Conference in Concord, California. As you know, the rest is history. (The decision to continue homeschooling was also motivated by the desire to care for my critically ill father during his final years.)
With our family now living in Las Vegas, we have found a wonderful Catholic homeschool community, and are more determined than ever to continue to homeschool our four, previously children (the oldest just left to Franciscan University of Steubenville this fall of 2024). Although some (or most) days are filled with unexpected setbacks and tears, the gift of homeschooling continues to challenge the mediocrity of our faith and helps transform our family life every day. Most importantly, I've gained six best friends throughout this journey – my husband, my two sons, and three daughters. As we embrace each new day, we will work hard to pursue "God's dream" for our family, and with His grace, guide others to do the same.

“Do not be afraid. Do not be satisfied with mediocrity. Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.”
—Pope John Paul II
